I gotta tell you: The Resident Evil movies irritate me like a soda cracker in my boxer briefs. But somebody must like ‘em; this installment made back its $45-million budget at the box office, and it’ll probably do gangbusters business on DVD. And if you’re going to get the DVD, you might as well get the Special Edition, which includes a commentary by producer/writer Paul W.S. Anderson and producer Jeremy Bolt (director Russell Mulcahy is oddly absent), eleven deleted scenes, a making-of featurette, a sneak peak at the upcoming Resident Evil: Degeneration videogame, and what the heck — the full Devil May Cry 4 game. Yes, it is a comedy. In case you were wondering. The disc from Image Entertainment includes a commentary by stars Kattan, Denton, and Rawat, and director Glasgow Phillips, plus two “making-of” featurettes. $24.29 at Amazon.com. Filed under: DVD Comments: None |

Witness Day X, just out from Image Entertainment:
See what I mean? (I love how the trailer shows that you can plow your way right through a throng of zombies at a brisk walk.) The DVD includes making-of footage, and commentary by star Ken Edwards. $20.99 at Amazon.com. Filed under: DVD Comments: None |

A gun-toting, zombie-splattering priest is always a plus. The DVD includes bloopers and behind-the-scenes footage (which are kind of the same thing, aren’t they?). $12.99 at Amazon.com, or save three bucks at BrainDamageFilms.com. Filed under: DVD Comments: None |

The biggest zombie release of the last few weeks has been the third chapter in the based-on-videogames-like-you-couldn’t-tell big budget movie series, starring Milla Jovovich, the used-to-actress so skinny she’s practically translucent.
This says “Christmas” to me. Not just a zombie movie, but an Irish zombie movie.
You know what I like? I like zombie westerns.
It may be just out from Brain Damage Films, but at least it doesn’t sound exactly like everything else in the Brain Damage catalog.
Zombie movies are getting to be like sonnets; the standard elements have almost become strictures of form, within which a director can ply his art.
It’s from Brain Damage Films, so entertainment quality is a gamble. However…
