This says “Christmas” to me. Not just a zombie movie, but an Irish zombie movie.

In Boy Eats Girl the horror of school takes on a whole new meaning. Forget about the threat of the classroom bully, the anxiety of the rugby field or even the dread of being spurned by the girl you fancy; when your schoolmates develop a taste for human flesh it pays to know who your friends are, and what they’ve been eating.

Undead or Alive (2007)

In this unusual take on the Old West, an innocent cowboy, Luke (Saturday Night Live’s Chris Kattan) with his reluctant new partner, Elmer (James Denton, TV’s Desperate Housewives) fleece a crooked sheriff and attempt to disappear in the desert. Only Geronimo’s smart and beautiful niece Sue (Navi Rawat, TV’s Numb3rs) can help them solve a mysterious Indian curse and escape from Sheriff Zombie’s bloodthirsty posse. Will romance between Luke and Sue blossom or will the undead permanently keep them apart?

Yes, it is a comedy. In case you were wondering.

Stiff Odds (2004)

It may be just out from Brain Damage Films, but at least it doesn’t sound exactly like everything else in the Brain Damage catalog.

In the afterlife, betting on people’s death is a popular event. The Grim Reaper himself (a.k.a Bert) owns a booking business where the deceased can bet their luck on who’s kicking the can next on Earth. Business was going swimmingly until a bumble with the books leaves Bert in huge debt. To cover his tail, he resurrects three young hooligans (Sam, Ivan & Lucy, who were maliciously gunned down in a scuffle with some local thugs) to try to stack the odds by giving them a second chance to kill those who killed them. Needless to say, things don’t always go as planned; Which is the lesson learned by two innocent spectators (Sheba & Pongo) who get mixed up in Bert’s orgy of revenge and mayhem.

I didn’t say it sounds better. Just different.

Day X (2006)

Zombie movies are getting to be like sonnets; the standard elements have almost become strictures of form, within which a director can ply his art.

Witness Day X, just out from Image Entertainment:

As a mysterious outbreak transforms the general populace into a throng of marauding, flesh-eating creatures, eleven strangers find themselves trapped in an abandoned steel mill. One of them, the enigmatic Frank Chambers (Ken Edwards), is accompanied by a comatose white-haired girl who may be the key to revealing the horrific truth behind the infection. Time is running out, and the end is nearer than you think!

(I love how the trailer shows that you can plow your way right through a throng of zombies at a brisk walk.)
