It’s been a while since we’ve featured a do-it-yourself movie released through CustomFlix, so here’s one for you — a whopping 137-minutes’ worth!
Eight friends go camping in an effort to bond and become closer. As they discover their true selves, as they discover renewed love, one of the group is viciously attacked and changed - forever. From that moment on, their lives descend into madness, chaos and nosh.
I dunno, I usually expect a zombie flick to do more than “discomfit” me…
Get it for $11.50 from Amazon.com.

Speaking of Tempe Video (and we just were, you recall), this shot-on-video high-school zombie comedy was originally distributed on video by Tempe back when it was first released. Now it comes to you courtesy of Camp Motion Pictures “Retro 80s Horror Collection,” which as been counting on the nostalgia value (!) to sell DVDs of such camcorder epics as Cannibal Campout, Woodchipper Massacre and both Video Violence movies. Isn’t it great to be living in The Future?
Rock’n’Roll High School meets Re-Animator in this notorious and outrageous 1990 horror/gore comedy. When two criminals accidentally release toxic chemicals into a school’s water supply, those who come in contact with the lethal brew become flesh-hungry members of the walking dead. As the dead bodies pile up, the student body battles to stay alive amidst the blood-splattered carnage. The only hope for survival for this high school gone to hell is a pair of bookish nerds and a talent-challenged heavy metal band, but they might not make it out of lunch period in one piece.
This “Super Bloody Splatter University Edition” includes three commentary tracks, the original fundraising promo, a making-of segment, and three commentaries, plus assorted fluff. $13.49 from Amazon.com.

This one comes to you courtesy of the “Splatter Rampage” label of Tempe Video, a low-budget distributor that knows its zombies. (Owner J.R. Bookwalter first got publicity two decades ago as the teenaged director of The Dead Next Door.) This time out, director Gary Ugarek gives us a flick that won “Best Zombie Film” at the 2006 Fright Night Film Festival.
Unexplained explosions rock several major U.S. cities. As the night unfolds, more mysterious events are yet to come. In Baltimore, five strangers take a stand as the world is rapidly consumed by the living dead! A man stuck in a traffic jam narrowly escapes to warn others of what s heading their way… best friends fight to return home and find the fate of their families… a mother and son desperately seek to escape the horrors gathering outside. While each human stands to fight and survive, the army of the dead continues to grow…
Amazon.com has it for $17.99. Or you could order it directly from Tempe’s website (where they have the trailer available too) for even cheaper — $14.99! Do I love you, or what?

We’re not zombie elitists around here, oh no; we don’t insist that our zombie movies feature multitudes of the living dead. No, a single shambling corpse qualifies you in our eyes. Aren’t we the greatest little populist zombie shopping blog ever?
300 years ago, a coven of persecuted witches swore a gruesome curse of vengeance upon any person who would dare harm its descendants. Three centuries later, a young woman named Margaret is brutally murdered, victim of her husband’s cold-blooded plot to inherit her wealth. Howard could not possibly know that his wife was a direct relative of those witches, and the ages-old curse lying dormant for generations will manifest itself before his very eyes and those of Margaret’s killers…in the form of a horrifying monstrosity risen from the grave…an Evil that will not be stopped until blood flows and flesh is torn asunder.
Stars Debbie Rochon, in case you’re interested. (This is from Shock-O-Rama, which cultivates the clientele that would recognize her name.) You can check out the trailer at the Shock-O-Rama website. Amazon.com has the DVD for $16.99.

Originally broadcast on SciFi, this horror-comedy now hits DVD from Anchor Bay in a gorier cut (a common pattern of release for a string of low-budget horror flicks from producer Mark Altman).
Dean Cain stars as Lt. Bobby Quinn, a Special Forces commando killed during a recon mission deep in the Cambodian jungle. But when Quinn interrupts his own stateside autopsy, he discovers that the rest of his dead squad has been resurrected with a ravenous appetite for human flesh. Now with the help of a wisecracking cook (Guy Torry of AMERICAN HISTORY X) and a sexy film geek (Susan Ward of WILD THINGS 2), the part-zombie Quinn must stop the plague before it can infect the entire nation. Who holds the shocking secret behind this blood-crazed carnage? And what happens when Quinn stops gnawing on raw steak and starts chomping on the hot chick? Colleen Camp (WAYNE’S WORLD), Dean Haglund ( THE X-FILES), Ellie Cornell (HALLOWEEN 4), Armin Shimerman ( DEEP SPACE NINE, BUFFY), John Billingsley ( ENTERPRISE, THE NINE) and Peter Greene (PULP FICTION) co-star in this splatter-riffic action horror comedy from the producers of FREE ENTERPRISE, THE SPECIALS and HOUSE OF THE DEAD.
Despite the reference to House of the Dead there as if it were a GOOD thing, Dead and Deader gets pretty good reviews as brainless genre fun. The DVD includes the obligatory making-of feature, commentary from writer Steve Kriozere and Producer Mark Altman, and assorted dribs and drabs. Yours for only $17.99 at Amazon.com.

Is there any B-movie plot cliche which could not be improved by the addition of the living dead? I submit to you that there is not! Let’s take the good old “televised survival/gladiatorial combat” motif (which has gotten a new lease on life thanks to reality TV finally catching up to our worst nightmares about the future of pop culture), and, well…
In the near future, society’s thirst for reality TV has pushed the envelope to the edge, creating a sadistic kind of entertainment…SURVIVAL ISLAND 2020. The concept is simple…Stay Alive!
Ten contestants are divided into five teams on a remote desert island. They must reach the other side of the island in three days, where for the winner, a boat and the $50 million cash prize awaits. While scavenging for food, supplies, and weapons, the players realize that they are not alone on the island. They are being hunted by an army unit of cold-blooded zombies. The demented super soldiers were left behind on the island, when it once housed a military base conducting secret, but failed, human experiments. Each team must find their strengths, gather their wits and try to outsmart the savage death squad that stalks them. If not, they are all DOOMED!
Reviews of the movie range from “godawful” to “much less godawful than I expected.” Maverick Entertainment’s got the trailer; Amazon.com’s got the DVD for $15.29.
